Hello Friend,
One of the most common questions I see in stroke support groups is:
"How many days a week should I do physical therapy?"
It's an important question because many stroke survivors worry they aren't doing enough, while others wonder if they are doing too much.
The answer may be simpler than you think.
When a toddler learns to stand, balance, and walk, they don't practice only once or twice a week. They learn through repetition, daily movement, exploration, and consistent practice. The brain and body learn through doing.
Stroke recovery is different in many ways, but the brain still learns through repetition and challenge.
In the video I'm sharing today, I discuss why consistent daily practice is so important for recovery and why progress doesn't only happen during scheduled therapy appointments.
We cover:
• why daily movement helps stimulate recovery
• the connection between repetition and neuroplasticity
• why balance, posture, and standing matter
• how to safely continue practicing between therapy sessions
• the importance of hydration for brain and body recovery
• why learning about your body can improve your recovery journey
• ways to safely challenge your brain and body at home
Of course, always follow the advice of your doctor, neurologist, and rehabilitation team. Every recovery journey is unique.
However, for many stroke survivors, recovery doesn't stop when a therapy session ends. The brain and body benefit from regular practice, movement, and learning every day.
This newsletter can introduce the topic, but the video goes into much greater detail with examples, explanations, and practical strategies.
