I mention in the introduction of my new balance and fall prevention book, Balance Walking and Fall Prevention, A Fitness Trainer's Guide for Seniors and Pre-Seniors, that there are varied reasons that a person may have challenges stabilizing their body for everyday safe movements. This includes balance, standing, and walking.
Remember, it is not only the physical that plays a role in fall prevention and safe walking. I share other important risk factors that also play a role in unbalanced bodies and falls in this book. There are factors such as disease, medications, nervous system diagnosis, hearing loss, brain injuries, and more that can add to balance and stabilization challenges. When it comes to medications, it is best to know your health and talk to your doctors about any side effects that can put you at a risk for falls.
There are over six hundred muscles in the human body. Two hundred of these six hundred muscles are in action when performing the safe movement of walking. When we walk, we need to stand up, stabilize the body, rotate the spine, lift and lower legs, flex and extend the hips and knees, and more. Subconsciously our brain and body make all the movements needed for balance, standing, and walking, until something gets weak or malfunctions. This is why it is important to gain knowledge and re-train and strengthen consciously when your subconscious is not doing its best anymore.
Brain care is important. The brain is the engine to the body. The brain sends messages to the spinal cord. The spinal cord sends messages to the muscles in the body to make a movement. The brain and the spinal cord are known as the central nervous system. They also work together for proprioception and spatial awareness. There will be short and easy to understand chapters on all of this.
You do not need to learn the two hundred muscles. In Balance, Walking, and Fall Prevention, A Fitness Trainer's Guide for Seniors and Pre-Seniors I share muscle illustrations and the movements muscles perform to help you understand the basics and common sense of movement. This will help make exercise, posture, physical therapy, rehabilitation, and any physical training more understandable for you. Don’t worry, I will not be sharing all two hundred muscles.
When people begin to lose balance and feel unsafe in movement, something has malfunctioned. If your brain and body are medically capable of strengthening, this book will help you.
You will read a story of a client that was 104 years old and others that had amazing changes that were beyond my expectations. I encourage you to read their stories. My hope is that, as you read this book, you will find something that helps you.
Knowlege is Power!
